The standard cost for this training is £500 per person and lasts for one full day. A maximum of eight people can be trained in one session. The location for this training can be to suit the customer, providing there are suitable facilities in place, e.g. workbenches, tools, power sockets. This training will also provide each attendee with a full set of manuals. One copy of the PSU and Circuit Board manual will also be provided. Having completed the training, the attending company will be entitled to order spare parts and will be issued with Field Change Orders (FCO's). Names and companies will be added to the circulation list for FCO's.

Ribbons

It is important to understand that there are a number of alternative suppliers of ribbons that are (supposedly) fit to be used in the FDP20. It has been my experience that whilst a number of companies do produce good quality product, there are even more that do NOT. The ribbon is a VERY complex piece of engineering, and the ink is also to a special composition. Significant numbers of so called failures are down to cheap and poorly made ribbons being used - it is almost always false economy as - in the worst cases - the ribbons can damage the printer and the print-head causing significant cost to repair.

CW Sales & Marketing recommend ONLY the ICL manufactured version for use in the FDP20, Pricing as follows :

ICL branded ribbon

Part Number AC40093 and priced at £600 list for 100 ribbons. Supply is in master packs of 50 boxes, each with 2 ribbons in.

Cleaning Cards

These are found to significantly improve the handling of passbooks and /or thick documents as regular use maintains the rollers in an optimum condition hence providing grip on the document/s. As well as improving the handling of thicker documents, it is suggested that this cleaning operation is good practice to maintain this high precision product to ensure that users obtain the maximum possible operational life.

Please note that each card is designed to clean TWO printers, one immediately after the other. (If the card is "stored" after cleaning one printer, the Alcohol based cleaning fluid on the card will evaporate).

Cleaning periods - whilst this does vary depending on the type and cleanliness of the document, the environment that the document and printer is kept in and the usage of the printer; it is suggested as being once every 6 weeks. However, as with any pre-emptive servicing (such as maintaining oil in a car) it will not harm the printer if it used more, and if the environment and documents are very clean, with light printer usage, it may be that you can clean the rollers every 8 to 10 weeks. Instructions for use are printed on each card, and are user operated.

NB - a minor comment on the instructions - point 4 - states :

"Hold it (the card) there for 20 seconds"

This DOES mean that the operator sets the self test going (as described) and physically holds the cleaning card in the mouth of the printer and DOES NOT LET GO as the rollers will rotate on the card and thereby clean themselves - if the user lets go of the card, it will not harm the printer or the card, and SOME cleaning will occur, but it will not clean the printer properly.)

Stock is available (part number LZ00110) and there are 3 cards in each plastic bag, and 30 of these are in each box making a total of 90 cards. The prices for these boxes (which are the minimum quantity available) are attached with a volume price structure.
